Forced Air Furnace Installation

A furnace is a forced air heating system that distributes heat through ductwork. Modern furnaces are typically gas powered, energy efficient and require venting through the side, back, or front wall of the home. Heat Pump Installation

Wall-mounted or floor-mounted heat pumps are the perfect solution for supplemental heating in homes with poor air circulation or electric heating. Ductless split heat pumps can operate down to -25°C, and also provide air conditioning in the summer. These systems are highly efficient, practical solutions for older New York homes. Radiator Installation

Radiators transfer thermal energy from a hot water heating system to create efficient, uniform heat. Older, New York homes are typically equipped with large, cast iron radiators, but modern radiators are available in many configurations and sizes, and range in applications from towel radiators to space heating. Boiler Installation

Boilers can be used to operate and heat radiators, radiant in-floor heating, air handlers and domestic hot water tanks. A boiler is a highly versatile and efficient heating system. Many new home construction contractors prefer installing these hot water heating systems to traditional furnaces, because of the balanced heat they create and the space they save. High Efficiency Boiler Installation & Service

A high efficiency boiler is a heating system used in a house with radiators, radiant-in-floor, or hydronic fan-coil heating. Modern household boilers are classified as condensing or non-condensing, based on their efficiency in extracting heat from exhaust gases. Condensing boilers have 89% or higher efficiency, and extract so much heat from the exhaust that water vapor condenses. Condensing boilers can typically deliver heat savings of 20%-35% when compared to a boiler with 60% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE). Condensing boilers vent out of the sidewall of a home and require a floor drain.

A key feature of any of high efficiency boiler is their ability to modulate their capacity. Just as stop-and-go driving wastes fuel, so does on-and-off (or “short”) cycling of your boiler. On very cold days, your boiler may operate continuously to heat your home. However, on warmer days, an ordinary, fixed capacity boiler with unchanging output will repeatedly turn its burner on-and-off. This is happening in your home if the radiators get very hot, very quickly, and then shut off just as quickly. You might think everything is working, but the system is, in fact “short-cycling”. This puts out a lot of BTUs for short periods of time, wasting fuel with every new ignition. On warmer days, a modulating boiler automatically reduces its BTU input, which in turn lowers the level of fuel consumption. This reduces cycling dramatically. In addition, the heat exchanger enters the condensing mode. Here, the boiler maximizes heat extraction from the combustion process and significantly reduces your fuel bills.

Combination Boilers

Combination or combi boilers, combine central heating for homes with radiators, radiant in-floor, and/or air handler heating systems with tankless domestic hot water heating in a single, high-efficiency unit. When you turn on a tap or a shower there is a call for domestic hot water, the boiler stops pumping water to the hydronic heating circuit and diverts all the boiler’s power to heating domestic hot water. Combination boilers are ideal solutions for families living in Older New York homes. Combi boilers are not recommended for multi-tenanted homes or homes where there is demand for a large volume of domestic hot water at the same time. They are perfectly suited for families who tend to use showers and appliances sequentially.

Non-Condensing Mid-Efficiency Boilers

A non-condensing mid-efficiency boiler is a heating system used in a house with radiators, radiant-in-floor, or hydronic fan-coil heating. A mid efficiency system is a boiler with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 89% or below. Most homes with older boilers have mid-efficiency units that are vented up the chimney.

Due to changes to the Gas Code, introduced by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) in October 2009, there are many new restrictions related to installing natural draft mid-efficiency boilers. A natural draft unit draws air from the boiler room to use in the combustion process. With many basements being finished and converted into useable space, these boilers end up in rooms with inadequate combustion air that can result in carbon monoxide back drafting into the space with potentially fatal consequences. It is expected that the Canadian government will stop allowing manufacturers to import mid-efficiency boilers in the next few years, as they have done already with mid-efficiency forced air furnaces.
